Education
To advocate for student interests, students must understand the
issues currently facing higher education. CSA
facilitates student education in several ways.
Legislative and Higher Education Policy Research
Facts, figures, trends, and
recommendations on a variety of policy issues.
CSA publishes policy reports on
issues such as quality indicator systems, articulation agreements, credit
transferability, distance education, and tuition.
Regular Campus Updates
CSA maintains a website with
information and links regarding Colorado colleges and universities as well as
the Colorado General Assembly and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.
CSA also maintains an email
list-server that anyone can join at our website and receive regular legislative
updates and news on upcoming events.
Leadership Conferences and Training Workshops
Topics include:
lobbying, working with administration, voter registration, media
relations, student fees, tuition, tenure, capital development, financial aid,
and technology
Opportunities to work with students from around the state.
Campus Visits
The CSA staff and Board of
Directors regularly visit campuses to maintain relations and to discuss various
issues with student governments.
Student Networking
CSA facilitates communication
among student organizations both in Colorado and nationwide in order to
facilitate the exchange of information and ideas between student groups.
Advocacy
In order to have a voice in higher education issues, the Colorado Student
Association maintains relations with the State of Colorado through two
full time lobbyists.
Colorado General Assembly
CSA Maintains a presence with the
General Assembly when the legislature is in session from January to May.
CSA meets with the internal
caucuses of the Assembly and presents the issues that are important to students.
CSA works with the authors of
higher education bills in order to pass amendments that are good for students.
Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE)
CSA holds an official advisory seat on the CCHE board.
CSA regularly drafts changes for CCHE policy.
CSA is active in CCHE policy
discussion on issues such as quality indicators and distance education.
The CSA Representative Assembly
The Representative Assembly meets
twice per year to vote on what CSA’s agenda will include.
The Assembly works with the staff to decide which legislative and campus
issues should be addressed by CSA.
